Andy Stein

Andy is a passionate tango DJ and organizer who has been spinning tunes for dancers across the USA and Europe since 2012. He loves to create musical journeys that blend the best of the Golden Age with some surprises and twists. His tandas are carefully crafted to evoke different emotions and moods, from romantic to dramatic, from playful to intense. He also likes to share his musical choices with the audience, using an external monitor to display the current and next tanda in a clear and helpful way. When the pandemic hit, Andy did not let that stop him from bringing joy and connection to the tango community. He hosted weekly virtual milongas on Zoom, called Tandas Around the World, where dancers could enjoy his music and chat with each other. As the founder of Milonga as a Service (MaaS), he offers a 24/7 online tango service in the cloud that is free and accessible to all at tinyurl.com/milongaas.

Ashvin Iyer

Ashvin has had multiple DJ tours of Buenos Aires, playing at the world’s most iconic venues such as Sunderland, Salón Canning, El Beso, Marabú, La Nacionál, Fulgor, Villa Malcolm and Lo De Celia. As of his 6th tour, Ashvin had played at 45 Buenos Aires milongas, and multiple times at popular names like Cachirulo, Porteño y Bailarín, Balmaceda, Parakultural and Gente Amiga.  In November 2022, Ashvin was interviewed as a DJ by the Buenos Aires Tango radio station La 2x4, FM 92.7.   Ashvin has been DJing since 2010 and his strength is a rhythmic mix. He is as adept at following the crowd as he is leading it. Most often his tandas stand out for being unpredictable and deeply evocative.   Besides DJing in Buenos Aires, Ashvin has played at a wide range of North American tango festivals - most notable among them the Tucson Tango Festival where, for 3 years in a row he has DJed 9 hours nonstop at the All Nighter. He has also DJed in Canada, and also at festivals in Europe and Mexico. He has been invited at international festivals to give seminars on the art of DJing.   You can view Ashvin’s DJ assignments at http://www.tangouniverse.com/dj-page.php

In his own words..."From informal practicas to outside events in parks and from under cherry blossoms at the State House in Salt Lake to Encuentros I have enjoyed playing in all sorts of venues in Arizona California, Utah, Montana, Oregon and Idaho. This year I started to branch out a little and played at milongas in Lisbon, Portugal. With extra effort I find the best sounding versions of all of the songs including importing from BA tango music clubs and European sources. The high quality tracks from the digital archives of Tango Tunes and Tango Time Travel now make up the majority of what I play. I work hard to get the best possible sound out of the system using a variety of software and plugins to clean up and engineer the sound to the room. Overall I choose music that I myself love to dance to and the recordings from the late 30s and early 40s are the ones that inspire me the most. I carefully choose the music that will keep the dancers surfing on the wave of the music."
